GTEA Negotiations Updates
January 19, 2010 The G.T.E.A. Negotiations Committee held its initial meeting with the Galloway Township Board of Education last night at Reeds Road. The meeting was very positive. The session began with members of both committees introducing themselves.  A subcommittee of the G.T.E.A. team then met with the board representatives for approximately 1 ½ hours.  Ground rules for future meetings were set.  Both parties exchanged proposals.  The next meeting is scheduled for February 4.

February 4, 2010 The G.T.E.A. Negotiations Committee held a second meeting with the Galloway Township Board of Education last night at Reeds Road School. Some progress was made.  The GTEA committee met together prior to the GTEA Negotiations subcommittee meeting with the board representatives.  The first joint session lasted about 1 hour.  The GTEA committee then discussed several items and the subcommittee met again with board reps.  The next meeting is scheduled for February 18.

February 18, 2010 The G.T.E.A. Negotiations Committee held a third meeting with the Galloway Township Board of Education last night at Reeds Road School. Some progress was made on several issues during the meeting.  The GTEA committee met together prior to the G.T.E.A. Negotiations subcommittee meeting with the board representatives.  The first joint session lasted about 1.75 hours and the second lasted about 1 hour.  Although progress on some issues may have been made, because of the nature of the negotiations process, details are not released to either the full board or the full association.  Items tentatively agreed upon could be changed during subsequent meetings and nothing is in final form until both sides are ready to present the final proposal for ratification.  The next meeting is scheduled for March 10.

March 10, 2010 The G.T.E.A. Negotiations Committee held a fourth meeting with the Galloway Township Board last night at Reeds Road School.  The G.T.E.A. subcommittee and the Board of Education subcommittee met with an insurance representative who explained a variety of issues.  The joint session lasted about 2.5 hours.  Although some progress was made, all monetary issues are on hold until after Governor Christie’s Budget Address and resulting decisions are announced.   The next meeting is scheduled for April 8. April 22, 2010 The G.T.E.A. Negotiations Committee held a fifth meeting with the Galloway Township Board of Education last night at Reeds Road School. The G.T.E.A. subcommittee and the Board of Education subcommittee met together in two sessions for a total of about 3 hours. A tentative memorandum of agreement on all non salary guide issues was signed by both sides. Any further talks are delayed until after the Board of Education representatives meet with the Galloway Township Council representatives, so no meeting has been set up at this time. May 26, 2010 The G.T.E.A. Negotiations Committee held a sixth meeting with the Galloway Township Board of Education last night at Reeds Road School.  The G.T.E.A. subcommittee and the Board of Education subcommittee met together in three sessions for a total of about 2.5 hours.  Contract information is being sent to Bob Willoughby at NJEA for the development of a proposed salary guide which will be shared with our team and the board representatives in the near future.  Following agreement on the guides, the entire contract proposal will be brought to the GTEA membership and the Board of Education for ratification.  An update will be issued following our next meeting and will be posted at www.gteanj.org.
